Five Life-Altering Quotes about Entrepreneurship (And What We Should Do About Them)

Everyone knows that being an entrepreneur isn’t easy. It can be stressful and frustrating.

You are building a company that will make its mark on the world. You are creating something that brings value.

There are many different things that threaten to discourage us; things can keep us from moving forward. As a matter of fact, these things cause many other entrepreneurs to give up.

Fortunately, this doesn’t have to be case. There are others who have come before us who had plenty of wisdom and insight to share. In this post, I will discuss 5 of my favorite quotes about entrepreneurship. I hope they’ll inspire you as they have inspired me.

It’s Never Too Late

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” Chinese proverb

It’s never too late to start your own business. Don’t give up because you think your moment has passed. It hasn’t. Many well-known entrepreneurs started when they were older.

You may regret the fact that you didn’t start your business earlier. So what? You can’t change what you did (or didn’t do) in the past, but you can change what you’re doing now. Don’t let age or regret prevent you from accomplishing your dreams.

It’s Up To You

“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” - Stephen Covey

It is all up to you. It doesn’t matter when and where you were born. It doesn’t matter whether you grew up in a rich family, or a poor family. Your success is in your hands.

Make the decision to be successful. Make the decision to persevere despite the odds. Your success isn’t based on your circumstances. It is based on your decisions. You have control of your destiny.
If you’ve been making excuses, knock it off! You have something to offer. Now is the time to pursue it!

Don’t Limit Your Thinking

Risk more than others think is safe. Dream more than others think is practical.” - Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks.

When Howard Schultz decided that he wanted to bring the Italian espresso bar experience to the United States, people doubted him. As a matter of fact, the owners of Starbucks would let him turn their coffee company into a coffee shop. It wasn’t until he bought the company that he was able to turn Starbucks into the company he thought it should be.

Starbucks became the coffee behemoth it is today because Schultz was willing to think bigger than those around him. He was able to envision something that others couldn’t see.

He saw no reason why he couldn’t take Starbucks to the next level. Don’t be afraid to push the limits people have imposed on you. Don’t let fear keep you from taking that risk.

Don’t Give Up

“I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.” - Steve Jobs, co-founder and CEO of Apple.

When Steve Jobs was ousted from his own company in 1985, he was devastated. He had lost the company he had given his life to build. He could have easily given up. You could hardly blame him.

But he didn’t.

He kept going. He created his own company. He chose to continue doing what he did best. He founded another computer company and also founded Pixar studios.

Why?

Because he was doing what he loved. That’s what kept him going.

Do you love what you do?

If you truly love what you do, you will have the strength to persevere even when it seems like you shouldn’t.

Keep Moving Forward

“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” – Walt Disney

This is my favorite quote about entrepreneurship of all time. It embodies everything a true entrepreneur is. As entrepreneurs, we keep moving forward in our quest to establish our enterprise. We continue to find new and innovative ways to deliver a quality product or service to our customers. We challenge the status quo and continually explore new ways of thinking and new ways of doing things.

It is this spirit that allows us to thrive. It is this spirit that keeps us going when there are setbacks.

Embrace your creativity. Allow yourself to dream. There’s no reason to stifle your ingenuity. Don’t stay stuck in the past. Keep trying new things. Keep thinking of new ideas. Keep dreaming new dreams. Keep moving forward.
